The obedience and humility of Mother Mary.

In the Christian faith, Mother Mary occupies a central and revered position. Mary’s story begins with a humble upbringing in Nazareth. Despite her ordinary background, she was chosen by God for a remarkable purpose – to be the mother of Jesus Christ. When the angel Gabriel appeared to her with the news of her divine calling, Mary’s response was one of profound obedience. She accepted God’s will without hesitation, saying, “Let it be done to me according to your word.”

This act of surrender exemplifies Mary’s deep faith and trust in God’s plan for her life. Despite the uncertainties and challenges that lay ahead, she remained steadfast in her commitment to fulfilling God’s purpose.

Mary’s obedience continued throughout her life, even in the face of adversity. When she and Joseph had to flee to Egypt to escape King Herod’s wrath, Mary trusted in God’s guidance and protection. When Jesus began his public ministry, Mary stood by him faithfully, supporting him in his mission despite the misunderstandings and opposition they faced.

Yet, alongside her obedience, Mary also exemplified profound humility. Despite being chosen as the mother of the Messiah, she never sought recognition or acclaim for herself. Instead, she directed all glory and honour to God, acknowledging her lowliness and dependence on his grace.

Mary’s humility is perhaps most poignantly demonstrated at the foot of the cross, where she stood in silent agony as her son was crucified. In the midst of her grief, she remained steadfast in her trust in God’s plan, accepting the suffering with grace and humility.

Throughout history, Mary has been venerated as a model of obedience and humility, revered for her unwavering faith and devotion to God’s will. Her example serves as an inspiration to all believers, reminding us of the power of surrendering our own will to God’s and embracing humility in all aspects of our lives.

In a world that often values power and self-promotion, Mary’s quiet obedience and humble service stand as a powerful counter example. May we, like her, seek to emulate these virtues in our own lives, trusting in God’s plan and humbly submitting ourselves to his will.
