Kudumba Kootayma

Family Units or ‘Kudumba Kootayma’ Units are the foundation of Syro Malabar church, where all families get together as a larger family to grow in faith and fellowship. Kudumba Kootayma units exist in all the four Qurbana Centres of St Bernadette Mission. Rajesh Toms is the Kudumbakoottayma Coordinator for St Bernadette Mission

‘Kudumba Kootayma’ meetings within the Mission are being held on the following schedule every month.

Week 1 Saturday – Aldershot

Week 2 Saturday – Guildford

Week 3 Saturday – Frimley

Week 4 Saturday – Woking

Woking Qurbana Centre

The following Kudumba Kootayma Units exist under the Woking Qurbana Centre:

ST.ALPHONSA   (Covering whole Sheerwater, West Byfleet, and Alpha road area. Literally everyone living on the Sheerwater side of Monument Road)

ST.EUPHRASIA: (Covering Oriental road area, Maybury road and Walton road area, Town centre area and West end. Literally everyone living on the Town centre side of Monument Road.

ST.PETER’S  (Covering Chertsey, Addlestone, Ottershaw, New Haw, Weybridge,Staines and surrounding areas including St.Peter’s hospital premises)

The following are the leaders of each of these ‘Kudumba Kootayma’ Units:

St. Alphonsa :  Wilson Kannookaden, Mercy Joshy

St.Euphrasia: Kunjumon

St. Peter’s : Jessy Jose

Frimley Qurbana Centre

There is only one ‘Kudumba Kootayma’ Unit functioning at the Frimley Qurbana Centre, which includes all the members of the Qurbana Centre. The ‘Kootayma’ prayer meetings are held on every third Saturday evening

One of the trustees preside over the meeting, which is held in the house of the parishioner who host the Holy Qurbana for that month. This may also be conducted at the parish hall of the OLQH Church Frimley, depending upon the availability of the hall. 

Aldershot Qurbana Centre

There is only one Kudumba Kootayma Unit functioning at the Aldershot Qurbana Centre. Kootayma prayer meetings are held on every first Saturday evenings.

Guildford

There is only one ‘Kudumba Kootayma’ Unit functioning at Frimley Qurbana Centre. ‘Kootayma’ prayer meetings are held on every second Saturday evenings.

Structure for ‘ Kudumba Koottayma’ Prayer meeting

The following will form the structure of all ‘Kudumba Koottayma’ prayer meetings in the mission.

Agenda

1. Welcome – Hosting family

2. Opening Hymn to the Holy Spirit.

3. Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary/Divine Mercy Chaplet (Karuna Kontha).

4. Prayer before Bible Reading.

5. Bible Reading (priest reads).

6. Explanation of Bible passage (by priest).

7. Reflecting Bible passage in silence.

8. Sharing of reflections with the group. (All)

9. Sharing Spontaneous prayer with the group (All)

10. Prayer: thanksgiving, special intentions.

11. Concluding Song and the final Blessing by Priest.

12. Report from previous meeting.

13. Felicitate members whose birthdays /anniversaries fall in the month.

14. Discuss and plan future activities of the kudumba koottayma unit.

15. Collectively brainstorm and put forward relevant agenda/positive ideas to consider in Church committee meetings for the growth of the parish/Mass centre

16. Decide the venue and time of the next meeting and inform all.

17. Share tea and snacks.
